  1. PAINT – A can of paint is an inexpensive way to create a mood or update a home. Color can change our moods or create an atmosphere, so how we use color can make a big difference. (Green and blue are claming, red, orange and yellow can be invigorating.) Painting a front door in a captivating color can give curb appeal.
  2. FLOWERS AND PLANTS – They provide color and softening in a space. Outside place them in pots at the front door, in flower boxes and walkways. Add cedar chips to create a fresh natural look. Inside use fresh flowers and plants in a few key areas.
  3. ACCESSORIZE – A few well placed accessories can warm up and update a home. Using a collection of items can create an interesting area and conversation piece. Avoid a lot of nick knacks which tend to clutter a space.
  4. NEW TOWELS AND SHOWER CURTAIN – Purchasing some fresh towels and a shower curtain can help to update a bathroom. Add neutrals and plains to make small bathrooms appear larger. Add fun patterns for kids and secondary bathrooms.
  5. ARTWORK – Filling blank walls with a few pieces of art can warm and update a room. This can be done effectively to suit any budget.
  6. THEME A ROOM – Whether it is for a child, a spare room or the family gathering, often we can have great fun with a theme. Some examples are sewing rooms, game rooms, sports memorabilia rooms, exercise rooms and craft rooms.
  7. SET THE TABLE – By using some of your existing items around the house you can create a table setting with WOW. You can add inexpensive dishes in colors or neutrals. Have fun with fabrics and placemats.
  8. DRESS THE BED – Layer a bed with new and/or existing linens to create a designer look. Add pillows and throws. Pull down the bedspread to show some of the sheets. Use two layered bed skirts. Experiment and have fun.
  9. LIGHT THE SPACE – Lighting can make such a dramatic difference in creating the mood of a space. Use a combination of light sources where possible, such as overhead lighting, table lamps, plant lights and desk lamps. More than one source in a room is best and the light should be balanced around the room.
  10. TWO DESIGN HOURS – Hire a pro (preferably Colours & Concepts) to give you ideas on how to improve your surroundings.
